Must see exhibitions in London this Autumn

As someone with an appreciation for art, I’ve always been expected to love going to galleries and museum exhibitions.  I’m told they will stimulate my ‘creative brain’ and inspire countless ‘stimulating conversations’ in the near future.  You know what? Actually the majority of exhibitions can be really dull and uninspiring.  Please don’t let this impact your love of the aesthetic.

I’ve been scouring websites, streets and magazines to bring you the most interesting (genuinely!) and beautiful exhibitions on offer in London this Autumn.

Where: Royal Academy of Arts

What: Matisse in the Studio

When: 5th August 2017 - 12th November 2017

But exactly what…? It's a race to catch the final weeks of Matisse at the Royal Academy.  The exhibition reflects upon the impact of the artist's eclectic collection of objects from across the globe on his  colourful and expressive paintings and collages - exhibiting them once again alongside each other.

Degas - The Ballet.jpg

Where: The National Gallery

What: Drawn in Colour: Degas from the Burrell

When: 20th September 2017 - 7th May 2018

But exactly what…? This is a rarely shown collection of Degas pastels from the Burrell Collection. Degas is known for being a grumpy old artist, however from looking at his art you would never know that he terrified the models into holding these positions.

Where: Tate Britain

What: The EY Exhibition: Impressionists in London

When: 2nd November 2017 - 7th May 2018

But exactly what…? The impressionists make up one of the most famous groups of artists worldwide. These artists fled from Paris to London to seek refuge during the Franco-Prussian war and the exhibition gives us an insight into how London was seen by our visitors as well as a chance to see the art of these remarkable artists.

That’s all lovely, but the only way you’re going to have any of that art on your walls is a postcard from the shop as you leave the Gallery. Where can I see (and maybe buy) more affordable art to inspire your own walls I hear you ask...

Where: Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane

What: The Other Art Fair

When: 5th October - 8th October 2017

Affordable Art Fair.jpg

Where: Battersea Park

What: The Affordable Art Fair, Battersea
